Who We Are

The Annual National Youth Festival is an extraordinary youth meeting between ordinary young people, elected representatives and key stakeholders to share ideas about current youth issues across the social, economic and political divide in Uganda. At the festival, young people (16 to 30) are able to freely interact and engage with politicians, diplomatic missions, academia, media, the private sector and civil society through customized debates, speeches, exhibitions, and workshops

Since its founding in 2011, the festival has attracted close to 3000 youth and 100 exhibitors every year. more than 50 high-profile politicians and key stakeholders participating. The festival is convened by Open Space Center in collaboration with other partners

The conversation about the Annual National Youth Festival starts with Suubi.

Meet Suubi: The Centre Of Attention For The Youth Festival 2020-2025

Suubi is an average young Ugandan who lives in one of the suburbs of Kampala. Suubi has completed senior six and has a daily income of 3000 UGX earned through handouts from parents or friends or manual labour. Suubi does not pay rent and the basic needs of food, clothing and accommodation are covered by parents, relatives or friends. Suubi’s interests include music, sports and movies.

We also focus on a Subbi that has dropped out of school due to several circumstances and a Subbi that completed school and on a pathway ready to engage in the scope of responsibility.

Suubi is therefore sexually active and always hangs out with like-minded peers. Suubi’s aspiration is to live a good life in future, stay in a nice house and have a happy family and also contribute to the development of the country.

The reality is that Suubi is just another ordinary young Ugandan who is living below their full potential. No one understands Suubi. Suubi is vulnerable to HIV/AIDS, exploitation, drugs, get-rich-quick schemes and poverty. Suubi is constantly on the lookout for life-changing opportunities, inspiration and role models. And that is where the Annual National Youth Festival comes in.

Our nature of service is represented by our Heroes badge.
